Welcome
to Saffron Seals - SWASC
Welcome
to our small and friendly swimming club run by voluntary committee
members, all parents of past and present members of Saffron Seals Swimming
Club.
We are a competitive
club, we compete in the Essex Mini League, which operates much the same as
a football league. We also participate in small but competitive galas against
other clubs in the local area.
We currently
train at the Lord Butler Fitness & Leisure Centre on Tuesday
and Friday evenings and at Friends’ School on Monday afternoons and Wednesday
evenings.
Friends’ School session are during term time, while the LBFLC session
continue during the school holidays. Friends’ School swimmers train at
LBFLC during the summer school holidays.
History of Club
Saffron Walden Amateur Swimming Club (SWASC) started out in
November 1911, as a Water Polo Club. The club’s base was the Town Baths in Hill Street, where they
stayed until the Baths closed in the late 1970’s.
Over the years we have produced some very good swimmers- not least one lady
backstroke swimmer who went to the Olympic Games in 1952. Also, many notable
names in Saffron
Walden have been Saffron Seals Swimming Club members.
