What is Expected of our Swimmers

Booking In
It is vital your child books in at the Seals Club Desk. This is esential for fire regulations. Please do not let your child arrive more than 30 minutes before his/her training session.

Punctuality
You must be on poolside 5-10 minutes prior to your training session starting. This is to allow for a warm-up. If you are late the coach in charge may not allow you to swim.

Behaviour
Please show respect for all Club Members and their property, also coaches, officials and Leisure Centre and Friends' School staff. We do not accept bad language or rowdy behaviour at any time. Any Club Member that persists with this type of behaviour will be asked to leave the Club.

Personal Belongings
Please make sure all items are named - one pair of trunks looks like another. We recommend that you do not take any valuables into the changing rooms unless using a locker. Remember the Leisure Centre is open to the general public as well.

Swimwear Dress Code
All swimmers MUST wear a hat.
Costume: any type of sensible swimsuit is acceptable for training (not a fashion bikini). Trunks - boys MUST wear proper swimming trunks not swim shorts.

However if you are picked to represent the Club in a gala, you will be expected to wear club swimwear - supplied by the Club.

Accessories - Club Members are expected to purchase their own hat, kickboard and pullbuoy on joining the Club and may also find the following equipment useful:
• Plastic Drinks Bottle
• Goggles
• Flippers/ Hand Paddles (optional)

Please note you can purchase most things through the Club at special rates. Please go to Seals Kit & Ordering page.

Tips for Avoiding Disqualification

General
At the start of the race:-
Once the starter has said 'take your marks' the swimmers have to remain still. Any movement after this point will result in disqualification.

Backstroke
1. When executing a tumble turn, the swimmer should not turn onto their front until close enough to the wall, so that they do not have to glide in to the wall.

2. Once the swimmer has turned, some part of the body must touch the wall-usually the feet.

3. At the end of the race, the swimmer must remain on their back until they have touched the wall.

Breaststroke

1. The leg kick must be simultaneous-otherwise it is seen to be a flutter kick which is not allowed. They also have to be on the same horizontal plane.

2. The hands are not allowed to pull back past the hips except for at the start and during the turn.

3. The swimmer must touch with two hands at the same time at the turn and finish of the race.

Butterfly

1. The arms have to be simultaneous and on the same horizontal plane. They must clear the water for every stroke.

2. The legs have to go up and down together -otherwise it is seen to be a flutter kick. Breast stroke legs are not allowed.

3. The swimmer must touch with two hands at the same time for turns and finish of the race.

Freestyle
1. If the swimmer tumbles, some part of the body must touch the wall - usually the feet.
