Supporting Saffron Seals
Our small and friendly swimming club is run by voluntary committee members, all parents of past and present members of Saffron Seals Swimming Club.

Volunteers
There are various ways in which you can help to support Saffron Seals; from donating time on a regular basis as part of the committee, to occasional assistance at galas.

Committee meetings are only one evening, once a month, not a big commitment. If you have swimming experience you could be trained as an assistant teacher or lifeguard for galas. Or you could train as a timekeeper or scorer. Help is also always required poolside, simply helping at galas ensuring the swimmers are in the right place at the right time.

If you think you could help out on the Committee,

The Great East Open Water Swim
Mark Sanders, Neil Green, Ian Rogers and Ed Pottrill all braved the inclement weather on Saturday 19th June to attend the Great East Swim, a one mile open water swim held in Alton Water near Ipswich.

The morning races were shortened to 1500m due to the wind and rain. Ed managed a very creditable 25.29 minutes. The afternoon races were shortened again to 1100m. neil completed the race in 25.11 minutes and Mark managed 30.02 minutes. Although the conditions were against us, just finishing created a great sense of achievement.

Sponsored Swim
On Saturday 27th Nov 2010 the Lord Butler Leisure Centre’s swimming pool was handed over to the S.W.A.S.C. (Seals) for their sponsored swim. Fifteen swimmers aged between 9 and 17 swam for three hours to clock up a total of 3872 lengths (60.5 miles or nearly 3 times the English Channel!). Swimmers were Ella Sanders, Phoebe and Trixie Snow, Georgina Dunham, Ella Sawtell, George and Alice Rogers, Joely Wright, Emily Abrey, Megan McLean, Lottie Dyce, Albert Pavelin, Dan Benton, Georgina Roughedge and Lizzie Eddershaw.

It was a top effort made by all, struggling through tiredness, aches and pains. All money raised will go towards buying much needed starting blocks for the club.

George Rogers who thought he’d finished, got changed and then got changed back into his swimmers after a while when he realised his sister (Alice) was going to over take him. Georgina D, who had to get out as she was feeling sick, then got back it to complete 200 lengths. Both the Snow girls got their heads down and clocked up over 8 miles between them. Both Ellas and Joely swam in the same lane and showed great team work. Staying together and swapping the lead after every 20 lengths. Albert who only put his name down for the swim the day before, so hadn’t had time to prepare put in an amazing 340 lengths (over 5 miles). Megan nearly stopped at three miles because she was in so much pain, but through gritted teeth, clocked up her fourth mile. One of our youngest swimmers, Lottie, put her head down and went hell for leather and clocked up 300 lengths. Three of the elder swimmers, Dan, Lizzie and Georgina R had to leave a little early but clocked a very impressive ten miles. And finally, Emily who managed to complete the longest distance over the 3 hours...an outstanding 370 lengths (just short of six miles)
