Essex Mini League

Essex Mini League finally resumed in 2022, with a full list of fixtures during 2023.   The list of competing clubs and fixture dates for 2024 can be accessed here.

About Essex Mini League
Essex Mini League has seven rounds each season, with Saffron Seals competing in five of these, one of which is held at home. The league operates in much the same way as a football league with points being accrued for positions in races at each fixture.

Swimmers can be swimming in EML from 10 years and up for individual races, and 9 years for relay events.  Selection is based on the following:
– PB times fastest for each age group.
– Have previous race experience.
– Deal with a higher pressured situation.
– Able to follow Swim England competition/racing laws.
If swimmers are unable to attend then next PB in that event/age group will be selected.

One of the characteristics of the Essex Mini League is that designated cut-off times are set for each for race.    If an individual swimmer/relay team swims faster than that time a time fault (TF) is imposed and no points are scored – although the time is still recorded. This discourages stronger swimmers taking part in what is essentially a fixture for novice swimmers. Points are scored throughout the evening to give an overall total team score.

This league has a good, friendly atmosphere and generates real team spirit, with swimmers cheering their fellow club members on and offering support.

SWSC have a selection committee who will form a squad dependent upon the the criteria for each round of competition. We will also take into account the commitment of swimmers to turn up to past events when picking teams for the future.   Therefore, if your child is picked the Club expects he/she to participate and it is important that you as parents encourage them to attend.

Remember if you are picked to represent the Club you must wear SWSC club colours. Please ensure your child has a drink in a plastic bottle to take with them and possibly a light snack as well.   The following is a complete guide to everything you will need to know about attending an EML fixture.

Parental help at these events is always welcome. If you feel you could assist in any way please contact a member of the committee – they would be most happy to hear from you.

We as a club always need new officials. If you are interested in perhaps obtaining a proper qualification such as a Timekeeper, Judge or Starter please contact a Committee Member.
